Um, the first intifada, "The Arabic word “Intifada” translates to “uprising” or “shaking off.” while not as violent as the second, did bring about The Oslo Accords.

"It was motivated by collective Palestinian frustration over Israel's military occupation of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, as it approached a twenty-year mark, having begun in the wake of the 1967 Arab–Israeli War."

IOW, it brought Israel to the table to negotiate a two state solution and bring about an end to an illegal military occupation.

Pity that Prime Minister Rabin was assassinated for his efforts. Many think that Sadat paid the same price six years later.

The intifada was in response to, "beatings, shootings, killings, house demolitions, uprooting of trees, deportations, extended imprisonments, and detentions without trial."

Sound familiar?
