True. The Warring Popes, in particular Pope Innocent the III, should have bloody and not the innocent after their titles.
It was Innocent's Papal representative Arnaud Amalric who, during the Albigensian Crusade and the imminent sacking of the French city of Beziers, responded when one of his Captains asked how they were going to sort the Catholics from the Cathars responded,
“Caedite eos. Novit enim Dominus qui sunt eius (Kill them. For the Lord knows who are His.)
God had some sorting out when 20,000 people were massacred.
From 500,000 to 1,000,000 Cathars and Catholics were killed, many burned at the stake.
Tis long overdue that the Church renamed them.
