Orwell was writing about the extreme Left, i.e. Stalin’s Communist USSR, and indeed photographs were doctored and many people disappeared…permanently. Millions.

My first post was about Trump, my second was about the current identity politics mania embraced by many on the Left to cancel those who don’t think as ‘they should’.

And the punishments are meted out for acts committed during childhood or adolescence…they’ve lost the meaning of context and an understanding of unrestrained zealotry.

But if you need a ‘for instance’, Trump lied about Covid from the start, even though he had the intel, publically minimizing its morbidity and mortality, and then mocking the use of masks, turning a pandemic into a political issue, and through his self-admitted prevarication, many people disappeared…permanently.
