There's the knowable, the unknowable and the unfathomable.
The concept of an anthropomorphized deity responsible for the creation of 'all of this' is in actuality an attempt to define the unfathomable in order to solidify the power of the priesthood over a frightened and superstitious congregation.
And it was an avaricious priesthood which eventually burned and killed and maimed millions in the name of God and his words, all in order to become one of the richest institutions in the world.
The irony of course is that by positing an angry, vengeful, homicidal, racist and jealous demagogue as God, and boy didn't many Popes act just like their God, one insultingly limits the power of the universe.
Can you not imagine something bigger than us in the Universe, wondering what those ants are doing pounding at door, demanding to be let into their version of the powers of the universe?
"We know who you are Gods, now let us in...or else!"
So, the Bible, like all 'codes of behaviour', is meant to NOT be taken literally.
One only need look at the similarities between the Egyptian God Horus and Jesus to understand it's all about the importance of a shared series of mythological allegory.
You know:
"a story, poem, or picture that can be interpreted to reveal a hidden meaning, typically a moral or political one."
Anything, and that means a sacred text, which limits our awe of the unfathomable is an insult to life itself.
