The relentless digital promulgation of 'fear for profit' makes Noam Chomsky's 'Manufacturing Consent' look like an elementary school primer.

People are being conditioned to overreact, often with a startling lack of empathy: proof that many are operating under a seige mentality.

When under constant seige, the old 'fight or flight syndrome' kicks in, and then a force five hurricane of splenative spew spoils any chance of meaningful discourse.

Tribes of self-perceived 'uber-victims' or malcontents find each other and absolutism reigns supreme, turning a world of chiaroscuro, a world of sublime nuance and subtley, into a world of simple and stark black and white vitriol.

Specious clichéd dogma, essentially 'you're either with us or against us', debilitates critical thinking and so vile transference becomes the pressure release valve, a valve easily triggered when 'the hated phobic enemy' is always at the gates.

And any request for dialogue is seen as the rant of a heretic, a heretic treading the path of endangerment to her livelihood or political future or standing in any community.

Thank you once again for so clearly stating where we find ourselves, where many, like you, are so damn tired of the divisive hyperbole.

It is indeed time that we need to say stop, there are much bigger issues at stake.
