His major academic work was on studying totalitarian fascism and communism as found during Hitler’s, Stalin’s and Mao’s murderous reigns of terror. In particular he was interested in the use of language to control thought.

Hence his academic concern over a government (Canadian) claiming that the mis-use/non-use of gender pronouns was a hate crime: Bill C-16 and Bill 36, both now law.
