Steve:

You're right.

"The kind of guy who throws my controller at my TV if I lose at a video game..." is often the kind of guy who finds sanctuary in the fundamentalist mosque, or temple or church for that matter, some too easily turned into irrational and violent crusaders.

Islam?

Hasn't really had a reformation...no wonder when any challenge is greeted with dangerous accusations of apostasy, hereticism or is labelled an infidel, often with a global death warrant- the Fatwa.

Sure, there's many sects, from majority Sunni to minority Shia and the very interesting mystical Sufi and the Ismaili.

But given the incredible wealth of the Saudi Sunnis, then the ultra conservative Wahhabism, eerily similar to Torquemada's Inquisition, will continue to spread its violent vengeful creed to those who prefer to follow Bronze Age dictates, best suited to those who herd sheep.

But oppress a people long enough and their only outlet for their anger or rage will be through religion, making them easy fodder for their often manipulative Muftis.

However, the Danes, and to a lesser extent some other European nations, might have found a solution.

*All immigrant children must receive a secular education.

* Their mothers and fathers must learn Danish.

* Mothers are not allowed to 'stay' at home and are not allowed to wear the hijab or burkas or veils in public.

My Province of Quebec has outlawed the wearing of religious garb or symbols if one works for its Government, and that also includes the kippah or crucifix.

Lastly, it doesn't help that many Western nations have violently usurped so many Islamic nations of their sovereignty, and oil hello Iraq, that a siege mentality has developed, meaning that religious reform is equated with surrender to the great Satan.

And therein lies the rub.

Trans-generational grief dogmatically transformed into senseless violence which will not allow..." marginalized groups to succeed and to thrive."
