Loved this sentence:

"It should not surprise us that this pleasant presentation of empire, without blood and genocide, is the result of a commission by the East India Company, who themselves were responsible for conquering large parts of what are today India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, with devastating consequences."

I also like the irony of Mercury urging supplication from the conquered as he is indeed, amongst others, the patron god of thieves and tricksters.

Did not know of Bharat Mata and I loved Shobha Singh's image of the tamed lion scattering his spoor on the Crown. As most Indians would recognize this act of territoriality, it is the ulitmate sign of degradation to be offered to the British.
