Remember my father, a WW II combat vet, saying this after Reagan fired all the air traffic controllers and put the military in their stead:
"They wouldn't have dared do that when we returned from war."
"We were literate, first thing they did was teach those of us who couldn't read to read. "

"Third, we were proficient and very very deadly. So much so that when we returned from overseas we demanded that we be treated with respect.
"No Winnipeg general strike like your grandfather endured, no enforced poverty. Same in the States. GI bill there. Veterans Act in Canada."
"Point is Son, Reagan's ensured that there's no one to stop the fat cats and the war profiteers and millionaires from running us into the ground. "
