Perhaps missing the point but often missing from the coverage are a few perhaps mitigating facts:

There were three, some say four nights of violence after daytime (mostly) peaceful protests.

Police clearly did not have control of the situation.

Also, according to his lawyer, the Rittenhouse family had historical roots in Kenosha...in particular his mother and grandmother, which may in some way better explain his motivation.

Many of the rioters were armed...indeed, Grosskreutz even pointed his pistol at Rittenhouse., a weapon which he carried concealed, which unlike Rittenhouse's open carry, is illegal in Wisconsin.

As well, a youtube video was circulating which showed an elderly man being assaulted the previous night with a cinder block no less, as he tried to defend a Danish Cultural Centre with his fire extinguisher

Fire leveled the building amid violent protests in the wake of the police shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha ...

I suppose most MSM did not show that video, nor concentrate on Rittenhouse's motivation, other than to say that he was a 17-year-old white supremacist, who went to Kenosha to kill people.

So great was their need to control the narrative, and virtue signal, most other than FOX, watered it down into simplistic good vs. evil plot lines.

I concur with Steve QJ, who opined that he felt as if he was watching two trials.
