Here's just one counter to your fallacious argument:

What about the practice of Sati Pratha (Suttee) , where quite often a dying Brahmin would take as a second wife, a poor peasant girl, to cradle his head on the funeral pyre?

The poor girl's family were of course remunerated.

BTW: The British banned Suttee in 1829!

Sure a tad later than when they banned slavery on 25 March 1807, when King George III signed into law, "the Act for the Abolition of the Slave Trade, banning trading in enslaved people in the British Empire.
