Just a dose of reality is often needed so that sanity can and should enter the 'discussion room' without pejorative epithets becoming scarlet letters.
According to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition, "gender dysphoria prevalence accounts for 0.005–0.014% of the population for biological males and 0.002–0.003% for biological females."
Okay, so that source is not without much deserved controversy.
How about this definition then:
According to Black's Medical Dictionary, gender dysphoria “...occurs in one in 30,000 male births and one in 100,000 female births.”
Or Merriam Webster's Medical Dictionary:
"a distressed state arising from conflict between a person's gender identity and the sex the person has or was identified as having at birth also : a condition marked by such distress."
But there is the Swedish kicker.
A socialist country, progressive by most definitions, decided to look into the increase in diagnosis among its children before changing its legislation which:
"...would reduce the minimum age for sex reassignment medical care from 18 to 15, remove all need for parental consent, and allow children as young as 12 to change their legal gender."
Imagine that! A Government actually asking for empirical data before bowing to a popular movement, a movement advocating for medical care that will have profound impacts on children.
Here's what they found.
"Among girls: a 1,500% rise between 2008 and 2018 in gender dysphoria diagnoses among 13- to 17-year-olds born as girls."
Among boys? An increase of 200%+.
The point?
That there's something else going on than just repressed sexualities finally being able to express their true gender.
What exactly?
That needs to be discussed too. Freely without the appellate of 'phobia' being automatically leveled at those wanting to ask questions.
Or worse, having such queries censored by Medium.
