I'd say Islam is a religion which suffers from a siege mentality.

With Christian Barbarians at the gate, Islam has been unable to transform itself through a Reformation.

And trillions of oil dollars has gifted the Muftis and Imams and Ayatollahs enormous power to make sure that the basic tenets of the Reformation are deemed heretical:
