Hey just wondering…did you ever get any ‘help’ from a ‘white’ person?

You know, a teacher, a prof’ or a co-worker? How about a nurse or doctor or neighbour?

How about an act of kindness freely given, with no patronizing inference, by a ‘white person’ who did not see your colour but you?

Was there ever an instance when someone’s humanity — regardless of their ‘colour’ — spoke to you when you needed it most?

And, when you were bullied, was it always by ‘white people’?

Can you really not share a story or two about a white person who made a difference in your life?

That might bring about a sense of balance to a very important level of non-divisive dialogue…you know, between all peoples of all colours when insipid levels of tribalism — and its destructive corollary absolutism — are threatening to tear us apart.

I’d like to think that MLK Jr.’s speech is important for all of us to remember — all of us — you know, that people’s character is more important than their race:

“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.”
