Hello Ana,
Snarky comments?
Because the majority of her articles are hyperbolically misandric and so filled with generalizations, that they therefore are in dire need of a good miffing.
She writes very few stories of praise for men. Hence the well deserved ‘snarky’ tone and I apologize, I should have made that much clearer. (Read the title of her most recent:
I’m Not Sexist, Your [sic] Just Stupid
“Why some men can’t stand the sight of a confident woman.”
You can’t continually bait men with inflammatory titles (even though she says ‘some’) and then expect them to obey a justified call to arms.
And PLEASE, this is not the late 1960’s and 70’s, women have come so very very far since then…at least in North America but of course there is still much work to be done for both genders.
Maybe these two quotes, one by Atwood made last year, another by Meryl Streep, made last week, can better encapsulate my position.
Atwood:
“My fundamental position is that women are human beings, with the full range of saintly and demonic behaviours this entails, including criminal ones. They’re not angels, incapable of wrongdoing. If they were, we wouldn’t need a legal system.
Nor do I believe that women are children, incapable of agency or of making moral decisions. If they were, we’re back to the 19th century, and women should not own property, have credit cards, have access to higher education, control their own reproduction or vote. There are powerful groups in North America pushing this agenda, but they are not usually considered feminists.”
Meryl Streep:
Actress Meryl Streep criticized the use of the term ‘toxic masculinity’, arguing that toxicity is a trait that afflicts both sexes as women can be ‘pretty fucking toxic too.”
Furthermore, these two researchers dare to posit opinions contrary to new wave feminism, one from UBC psychologist Don Dutton and the other from SFU criminologist Sara Desmarais.

They represent the points I am trying to make. The bias against men is so over the top that most people are unwilling to critically analyze social memes or tropes, at the very least through the use scholastically sound empirical data.
And that’s not even getting into the absurdity of public ‘shaming’ through hashtag social media, some made in anonymity and are taken seriously, without the elementary judicial process of j’accuse.
Accepting ‘feeling /anecdotal based evidence’ usually happens when a ‘moral panic’ is in full swing and an orthodoxy is created. And like all dogma, challenges are viewed as heretical. Please see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moral_panic
It posits a dangerous infantilizing perspective that women lack a dark side and therefore are not fully human.
Rather than go through my argumentation, in 2017, I wrote an article about the dangers inherent in confusing normal adolescent sexuality fluidity with gender dysphoria.
I have had the honour of many students ‘coming out’ to me…indeed I once by chance, less through professional intervention than happenchance, stopped one ‘self-loathing’ gay student on his way to killing himself.
In the article, I highlight my professional travails with social justice issues/educational fads run amok.
I had to witness first hand a number of families absolutely destroyed by false accusations based on the so-called ‘repressed memory syndrome’ fad wherein the vast majority of perpetrators were men.
In the mid-1980’s, my poor elder sister fell under the sway of a feminist psychologist who believed that my sister had been sexually abused by my father and my uncles and planted those memories in her.
As you can imagine, the carnage was horrific. (That’s not to say that bad things don’t happen in families as I also helped bring two pedaphiles to justice in the mid-80’s.)
Thankfully the work of Dr. Elizabeth Loftus, a researcher with academic credentials (Stanford) threw it on the ash pit of ‘pop-psychology-fed’ moral panics gone awry: male psychologists who tried to point out the obvious were largely ignored.
Tens of thousands of men were falsely accused and imprisoned. Families were torn asunder, reputations ruined and self-serving ‘therapists’ richly rewarded for unearthing ‘Repressed Memories’ and then receiving even more money from District Attorneys and Crown Prosecutors to testify as ‘experts’.
Here’s my article:
Don’t mistake teen sexual confusion for gender … — Vancouver Sun
https://vancouversun.com/.../dont-confuse-teen-sex-confusion-with-gender-dysphoria-te...
(Another big mea culpa caveat, I confused the American College of Pediatricians with the American Academy of Pediatrics.)
And that’s not even getting into more of my personal experiences with the misandry so ludicrous apparent in our social services agencies and how that enabled the same poor sister to essentially destroy what was left of my 86 year-old mother and 89 year-old father’s 65 year-long marriage.
In 2010, through the crass manipulations of an institutional bias so blatant, she was able to essentially kidnap my mother, take control of her financial affairs, deny my mother contact with my younger sister, with me, with countless nieces, nephews and friends, and keep my parents apart for two years and four months until mom died.
I saw my mother more when she was dying in hospital than I had for the previous two years.
In short, the ‘system’ believed her as my sister is a woman and my father a monstrous male. I was seen as an enabling male, despite my sister having logged twenty-five 911 calls to my parents’ home and having been escorted from their home twice!
But hopefully you get my point: ‘new wave feminism’ can’t beatify one gender and demonize the other, enact misandric laws, and then expect a united common front against the religious ‘wing-nuttery’ that is happening in the USA and even here in Canada: all against a woman’s right to her body and therefore choice.
Lastly, just because I take umbrage when I read inflammatory illogical positions made by ‘new wave feminism’ does not mean that I want to silence ‘women’. Rather, I would prefer that when they are vocal, they are held to the same level of scholastic integrity and analysis as some men are.
You are making my point about an orthodoxy unwilling to see criticism as being nothing more than apostasy, critical thoughts anathema to ‘the cause’ and therefore ‘thoughts, words and deeds’ are falsely attributed to the heretic.
I am no heretic, merely someone who wishes that victimhood not be used as a method to deny accountability.
