Saudi Arabia, staunch ally of the West, didn't get around to outlawing slavery until 1962, and Oman finally got the message in 1970.
Bah, some might say, that's on the other side of the Atlantic, even past the Mediterranean, who gives a lash or chattel chain about their guilt?
Okay, how about the so-called 19th Century 'civilized tribes' of the US South East?
The Cherokee, Choctaw, and Creek all owned black slaves...why they even took their slaves along with them on the 'trail of tears'.

As you point out, even the venerated Dalai Lama once owned human beings. But, he's not white, is he?
